Economic Stimulus Package |
As you're no doubt aware, Congress recently passed one of the largest stimulus packages ever. Over $20 billion is included in the form of grants and loans as well as other incentives to help push healthcare into the future with the latest technology. With up to $64,000 available per provider, this will be a huge benefit to medical practices and clinics by providing funding to implement software that will allow one click, electronic access to patient information.
- Starting in 2011, "meaningful" EHR users can earn $44,000 under the Medicare plan and $64,000 under the Medicaid plan over 5 years.
- Early adopters benefit most as about 70% of the payments come in the first two years.
- Those engaged in PQRI and electronic prescribing can earn an additional $6,000 - $8,000 per year beginning immediately.
- Physicians that do not adopt an EHR by 2015 will be penalized, though the percentage decreases in Medicare reimbursement rates.
MedNetwoRx invites doctors and practice administrators to contact us to discuss the prospects of this groundbreaking new era in medicine and technology. To find out more about how to make the transition in your practice please click here or contact our sales department at 800.307.3937, or 972.892.7200. EDI Insight Reduces e-Claim Paperwork
|
One of the many highlights of
this year's MedNetwoRx eCeno User Meeting was a demonstration by Jim
Goehrlich from Practice Insight. Jim showed attendees the EDI Insight product, which is a value added clearin ghouse option. EDI Insight
automates the process of tracking your electronic claims. Every message
from the clearinghouse or payer is electronically attached to the claim, eliminating
the need to look through the many paper confirmation reports that your
current clearinghouse sends. You can pull up the patient by name or
account number, and with a couple of clicks review the status of any claim you
have filed with the entire history of that claim on your screen. From this same
screen you can repair and re-file a rejected claim, file a claim appeal, and
generate custom timely filing letters formatted with your practice
letterhead. You can also reset and download a missing ERA file or print a
single patient EOB in either the Medicare or payer specific EOB format.
If you would like to see how it
all works we will be offering another EDI Insight Demonstration:
May 12, 2008 at 10:00 am CST / 11:00 EST. Please email Chanda at Chanda.williams@mednetworx.com
if you wish to attend and a link for the meeting will be emailed to you.

How to
Create a Template in Outlook 2007
|
 Create email templates you can
use for form emails and other commonly formatted messages. Templates enable you
to reuse message content, send to common recipients and establish common
subject lines. Templates are particularly useful in email newsletters and
periodic group messages, where only particular information changes.
Step 1
Open Outlook
2007. Make sure you have an active account fully configured and ready to send
email.
Step 2
Write an email
message. Select "New" from the main toolbar.
Step3
Customize the
email. Add the intended recipients to the "To" and "CC,"
including any groups. Enter a subject line for the template. Finally, add
content to the message and apply any formatting.
Step 4
Save the email
as a template. Select the "Office" button, and then "Save As" in the "Save as
type" drop-down list. Select "Outlook Template." Give the
template a name, and choose a file location, or accept the default folder of
"Templates." Click "Save."
Step 5
Use the template.
To send an email based on the template, select "Tools," and then
"Forms." From there, select "Choose a Form." From the
"Look In" drop-down list, select "User Templates in File System." Navigate to the location where you saved the theme if it
isn't in the "Templates" folder. Select your template. Make any
changes, such as updating the message body content or subject line, or adding
or removing recipients, and then click "Send."

FTC Red Flag Rules - Compliance
Deadline May 1, 1009
What are the
FTC Red Flag Rules, and do they apply to my clinic?
The FTC Red Flag Rules are the rules and regulations associated with the FACT
ACT (Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act of
2003) signed by then President Bush on December 4, 2003. The effective date of the Act was January 1,
2008, and the mandatory compliance date is May 1, 2009...only days away.
The purpos e
of the Act was to establish rules implementing section 114 which requires each
financial institution or creditor to develop, implement
and maintain a written Identity Theft Prevention Program (to be structured much
like the HIPAA program requirements) to detect, prevent, and mitigate identity
theft in connection with the opening of certain accounts or certain existing
accounts. For the full FTC Regulation go
to http://ftc.gov/os/fedreg/2007/november/071109redflags.pdf
In short, the Red Flag Rules mandate that "financial institutions or creditors"
systematically perform due diligence to prevent identity theft. There has been much debate around the
question of whether or not medical group practices qualify as "creditors" under
the rules. The answer is yes for your
practice if "the provider does not
regularly demand payment in full for services or supplies at the time of
service", which,
according to the FTC, would be considered extending credit. Once you have determined your practice
qualifies under this definition as a creditor, then the next qualifying factor to
consider is whether or not "the
provider maintains covered accounts of its patients." The FTC
defines a covered account as" a consumer account designed to permit multiple
payments or transactions, or any other account for which there is a reasonably
foreseeable risk of identity theft. For a medical practice, this includes
patient billing records."
In order to
determine if your practice qualifies as a "creditor" under the Act, and to learn
more about how to develop a compliance program, read some of the latest
information .........
from
MGMA (Medical Group
Management Assoc.) http://www.mgma.com/policy/default.aspx?id=22590
from the FTC www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/articles/art11.shtm
from the AMA www.ama-assn.org/amednews/2009/03/30/bica0330.htm
We will provide you with additional information and resources
as they become available. If you would

our goal to keep you informed as to how you and both of our companies fit into
the rapidly changing electronic medical environment, as well as give helpful
hints for better productivity and software reliability.
Each issue of this newsletter will include a featured
article, any recent changes to the service that we provide to you, and TechTips
directly from our Helpdesk.
Network & Application Virtualization
As the technology level increases, computers become faster,
hard drives become larger, and consequently programs become larger and more
complex as well. This can lead to defects' in available resource across a
network, slowing down your connection or crashing the application you are
using. In order to prevent these situations, we have begun the process of
Virtualization of all servers responsible for the applications you use on the
network environment we provide.
This process makes each server more flexible and resilient
to network strain and reduces any downtime that you may experience to almost
nil, as each server is backed up in its entirety and can be re-launched in less
than the time it takes to report the problem.
